Rochdale olympic phase one, scholar racing, restoration

The car featured above is not typical of the restorations that we get to work on, as you can see it was pretty well on the way to becoming part of the landscape when we found it. The car does however show just what can be done if the right people are involved. We pride ourselves on the standard of our workmanship, unfortunately this can mean that the customer has a little longer to wait than might be normally expected. Thankfully all our customers are fully aware of this and are more than prepared to wait for the finished product.

One of the biggest problems with this restoration has been the modifications necessary to fit disc brakes all round. To enable us to do this we have had to specify the use of 14" alloy wheels which in itself isn't a major modification, but to get these 6" wide rims to fit under standard arches has meant some fairly radical thinking. To do this we have had to develope new rear radius arms which give clearance on the inside of the rim to allow for more modern larger insets on the wheels. On the front we once again had to provide more than normal clearance to allow the new wheels to fit. In the process of doing this we modified the standard hubs, machined new disc bell adapters and new calliper mounting brackets. By using this method we are able to reproduce the parts necessary to duplicate this set-up on any Rochdale Olympic phase one. Our set-up now uses standard BMW front discs, standard Metro 4 pot front callipers and standard Riley 1.5 hubs.

rochdale olympic interior

Whilst designing the interior of this car we have decided that the way to go was to use the standard Rover instrument pod, this means that the wiring can remain almost standard as the power plant, ECU, etc were all donated by the Rover 214. The resultant mouldings for this pod and the centre consol are also now available as an after market fitting.

This rebuild is now starting to move on, however as with any bespoke car restoration there are still some things which take a surprising amount of time to do. The latest item which has tested the facility to the enth degree is the fitting of the customer supplied door handles, which whilst looking really great in the doors have caused us no end of head scratching just to make them work. The end result however looks great.
